At Taibin Mosque, Jakarta, is located on Jalan Senen Raya 4 / Jalan Kalilio, sandwiched between the Era Tower and Allson Residence at Senen Triangle, Central Jakarta. The old mosque in Jakarta was originally built by a group of Senen Market Muslim merchants in 1815.
At Taibin means 'A Place for People to Repent'. At Taibin Mosque was built with Java Islamic architecture, and was originally known as Kampung Masjid Besar. In 1950 the name was changed to Imroni'ah Mosque, and in 1970 was changed back to At Taibin Mosque.
In the revolution era, Pasar Senen traders became logistic supporters for the fighters, and the mosque was secretly used as a place to disseminate the war strategy to face the Netherlands's troops, especially during combat in Senen, Tanah Tinggi, Kramat, as well as spying on the movement of Bataliyon X of the Netherlands.
In the 1980s when the demolition works took place at Senen Triangle, the mosque was luckily rescued from demolition effort by the developer.
At Taibin Mosque building, measuring about 20x25 m, is supported by four pillars of black teak wood with decorative calligraphy of Arabic letters.
Inside the mihrab (direction towards Mecca) there's a pulpit shaped chair made from teak, measuring 2x1.24 m and 3.20 m high, and three stairs made of marble. At the pulpit there are decorative tendrils and triangles.
The restoration of the roof of At Taibin Mosque was conducted in 1996 by the replacement of the tile, and in 1997 was carried out the replacement of flooring with marble by the Museum and History Agency of Jakarta.
