Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta is said to be the largest Hindu temple outside of Bali Island, just after the famous Pura Besakih. Although I've passed through near that place around the middle of last year, but I knew of the existence of this temple sometime last week from a close friend, and visited the beautiful place last week.
Location of Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta is in the hilly village of Warungloa RT 03/09, Village Castle, Castle District, on the slopes of Mount Salak, about 13km from the center of Bogor, with the road passing in front of the Gong Factory Pancasan and then proceed to Jalan Raya Ciapus heading towards to Curug Nangka .
After driving about 10 kilometers from the Pancasan Gong Factory, still on Highway Ciapus, there the nameplate of Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta on the left of the road. After making sure the right direction, I turned left at the T-junction, and continued to drive as far as approximately 1.4 km passed the rocky road that was not smooth.
Approximately in the middle of the rocky path towards the Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta, I stopped the car for a few moments just to enjoy the beautiful views towards the hills on the slopes of Mount Salak. On that hills there was a house that looked pretty, stood alone in somewhat high ground, surrounded by lush green trees.
The beautiful scenery at the house on the slopes of Mount Salak, which would make anyone feeling impressed when seeing it and wanted to be there. The entrance to the Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta was on the right side of the rocky road, which although wide but steep uphill, so the vehicle must be parked just on the roadside.
Three gates on the third level in the Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta named Kori Agung, separating the middle part to the main section. Two statue of dragons with exquisite carvings guarded the main entrance on the inside of Kori Agung Pura Agung Parahyangan Jagatkartta.
A few moments earlier I walked up the slope path when a woman at work was sweeping the street towards the temple. At the end of uphill path I turned to the left and there was a bale where the temple guard was apparently having conversation with a guest. After the guest left the place, the temple guard showed me the way to enter deeper into the Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta.
A beautiful statue of Ganesha. As long as I remember, can't blame my short memory, I did not see the structure of Candi Bentar gate that separated the outside part (Nista Mandala or Jaba side) with the middle part of the temple. Because the guard objected if I climbed the stairs of Kori Agung just to photograph the Madya Mandala, so I said let me did a meditation there.
Had no reason to refuse my request, the guard followed me walking up the steps of Kori Agung. He then stood waiting at the entrance of Kori Agung gate while I sat cross-legged and emptying my mind in the middle of vast grass field at Jaba Tengah, for about 10 minutes. There was a deafening silence only filled by the sound of the wind and birdsong.
Panorama of the Madya Mandala or the middle part of Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta, with a background of hills on the slopes of Mount Salak. Although the sun was bright, but cold mountain winds made me not feeling the heat. After a while of trying to sit in silence meditating, then I photographed the central part of the temple.
At the end of the Madya Mandala there are steps uphill to Utama Mandala or the main area, which is the most sacred part in the Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta. The guard said that sometimes he saw a white snake in the area of Utama Mandala. I do not know whether he was telling the truth, or just to get rid of my interest to get there.
The gate of the middle part is opened only when the Pura Parahyangan Supreme Jagatkartta organizes large yearly events like Galungan, Piodalan (Bali for anniversary event), or when the Sulinggih (priests) from other the temples come to visit the Pura to take holy water as part of series of Piodalan rituals of their temples.
Linggih Ngenteg (the officiated ceremony) series of events of Bogor Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkartta begin a few weeks before the peak of the ceremony at the Third Full Moon. Forerunner to this temple was founded in 1995, in a location is said a holy place, located at the remnants of Siliwangi, the greatest king of the kingdom of Padjadjaran.
